PEAR TREE LOG

pear tree log: I started this blog to keep my younger son, Jonny, in touch with life in Lincolnshire, while he spent a year working in China. That year turned into five! Now he is home and training to become a physics teacher. This is simply a patchwork quilt of some of the things I enjoy - life in rural Lincolnshire, our animals, friends, architecture, books, the gardens, and things of passing interest.

THE OLDER HE GETS THE WORSE HE GETS...

... and for once I'm not talking about your father.

Today, being Thursday, there has been an awful lot of gunfire around and about. The local shoots, plus some random shooting.  So my dear old Tobias has been a nervous wreck.  Panting, yawning, trembling - sticking like glue to me and trying to hide under my chair, on my knee, anywhere.  He is something like 11 or 12 years old now and I worry that he will simply 'conk out' with fear one day.

This anxiety used to be reserved for the fireworks on Bonfire Night and New Year's Eve at midnight, but now we live out in the sticks he reacts to gunfire - and there is an awful lot of that - as you know.  They are a bloodthirsty lot in the country.

Moving on - your Pa has been working on some of the drainage/soakaway - but the kitchen sink doesn't drain where he was expecting it to - so if you can remember where it was directed Jonny...

I was so pleased and surprised to see your updated blog this morning - more of that please!  Thanks for sending me your postal address.

Lots of love,

Mum

  1. ah, Holly has been barking a LOT lately... there's a donkey in the field behind us which I think makes her nervous but the guns don't help either... saying that she's now laying on the grass outside happily chewing on a bone!

  2. Note to self: Buy a bone ready for next Thursday - it's worth a try! Thanks Dom.
