PEAR TREE LOG

pear tree log: I started this blog to keep my younger son, Jonny, in touch with life in Lincolnshire, while he spent a year working in China. That year turned into five! Now he is home and training to become a physics teacher. This is simply a patchwork quilt of some of the things I enjoy - life in rural Lincolnshire, our animals, friends, architecture, books, the gardens, and things of passing interest.

Wrap Up Warm, Wellies On

I thought you might like to see another of our favourite walks, this time down past the fishing pond and across the Great Eau to the far bank where we will meander along to the fields of Belleau.
Come on, Gran!
This river feeds into the local trout farm and has private fishing rights.  It makes for a wonderful walk - or, as Harry preferred to call it today 'A Bear Hunt', with hungry trolls under all the bridges.  Luckily we met neither.
In the last couple of weeks they have done a lot of tree work along here, so we wanted to see the results.

We plodged through the mud, much to Harry's delight.
Past the tiny cottage with the bright red door.
On around the bend in the river, until we could see Belleau in the distance.
You can just see the lovely Belleau Church Tower in the distance, with the old dovecote in the foreground.
No trolls under this one!
Small signs of spring everywhere.
(Unfortunately I forgot my specs, so we were back to point and click, sorry)
Then we found a lovely muddy puddle to wash our wellies, before going home!

    I am not aware that there are trolls in our garden (how would we know? Do they leave signs?), but there are bears!
    FABULOUS to see some Spring flowers.

      They sing "I'm a troll, troll-olly-oh and I'll eat you for my supper".
      Don't worry though, you just tell that that you are far too small to make a good supper, but that the next person who comes along will be bigger and tastier. It works every time!
      Bears in your garden - goodness! Harry will be impressed when I tell him - do you have a photo I could show him?

      Hi Mitch, It was really invigorating, but I love the cold (as long as I am well wrapped up) fresh air. I think you'd really prefer a warm spring walk - I'll take you on one in two or three months - in the meantime please keep sharing that wonderful Spanish sunshine and scenery. It really helps me through the dark days.

      Hi Scarlet, Sometimes that is the best way to enjoy them. We haven't had any proper winter weather here (yet), have you? Some of the plants need it, not so sure about the humans.

      Hello Heidi, I'm so pleased you enjoyed that little walk - unfortunately the dull weather made for dull photos - it will be far more photogenic in spring.     Wonderful, wonderful pictures. We just had a blast of snow on every window in the house (North, South, East, West). So good to know spring is springing somewhere, and on its way.

      Hi Joanne, Brrrr. Snow from all directions sounds pretty wild and very cold. We are being told to brace ourselves for an arctic blast over the next few days - which probably means we will have a frost!

    Sorry so late.... Sunday almost has gotten away from me. Your walk in the mud and gray skies above are totally different from our weather today of blue skies and crisp air. I especially love the photo on the bridge. The red door reminded me of a time when I painted my door "preservation plum".

      Hi Meggie, Time seems to whizz by quickly here - I keep having to nip next door to help out as Son-in-Law is not taking any maternity leave until later in the year. It was a super walk, we really enjoyed the cold, fresh air - plus it meant that Harry got some special attention. I loved your post on that little church!

    I do not have a photo...last time a bear visited the video was on the wrong setting...nothing!
    Bear activity (close to the house) is at it's peak in June...I'll try then...we do not go out alone at that time!

      Ms Sparrow, It is wonderful seeing the snowdrops and primroses, the daffodil leaves are showing too - unfortunately we are about to have a really cold snap..
