PEAR TREE LOG

pear tree log: I started this blog to keep my younger son, Jonny, in touch with life in Lincolnshire, while he spent a year working in China. That year turned into five! Now he is home and training to become a physics teacher. This is simply a patchwork quilt of some of the things I enjoy - life in rural Lincolnshire, our animals, friends, architecture, books, the gardens, and things of passing interest.

Meet Rufus

He's the one with light brown hair, a bright red scarf, and a broad grin.   I'm not quite sure why Harry named him Rufus - the only Rufus he knows is a very bad tempered and rather aggressive Jack Russell Terrier.

We couldn't resist the call of the snow, so before breakfast George and I put our snow boots on and headed off to enjoy the beauty of the landscape.   I make the most of the fresh stuff while I can!

I'm pretty safe on fresh snow, once it gets compacted, or freezes and thaws, etc, then no matter how hi-tech my footwear I am very liable to fall.  The size of my feet you would think I'd be pretty stable.

I took dozens of photographs, but I won't bore you with them all.  Suffice to say it was a wonderful walk, cold, refreshing and very beautiful.  

I never cease to be amazed at how the snow transforms the most ordinary of things into something really beautiful.  



Now I just need it to disappear as quickly as it came.  Fingers crossed!

Tonight I shall sit by the fire and use some of this delicious-looking wool which someone was kind enough to give me.  It is a couple of years since I last tried my hand at knitting, or crochet, come to that!  I wonder where these wonderful colours and textures will lead me.

    Love your pictures. Rufus doesn't look in the least aggressive, in fact he looks nice and smiley. We haven't had any snow here but lots of black ice.

      Molly, We don't often get snow near the east coast, so we made the most of it. I think we probably enjoyed it more than Harry did!

    I was going to comment on Rufus' bed head. Very close to mine in the morning. Must have the same sleeping habits. Your snow scapes are lovely. Over here it's pure sunshine and blue sky. We should be dancing on the lawn.

    Good job on the snowman! We still haven't had any amount of snow and there is none in the forecast. I guess you got it all.

      Ms Sparrow, Rufus is slightly thinner today, but we still have lots of snow - I'd be more than happy to share it with you, now that we have had our fun out there.

      John, Rufus is just tall enough to peer in the kitchen window and over the worktop - watching me as I type. I'm pleased that you got some decent weather for a change!

    oh dear you got our snow. If it'll make you feel any better we've had some beautiful sun shine the last couple weeks, hopefully you'll get those also! Darling snowman and snowman maker!

      Doohie, It is amazing what you can come up with when you don't fancy having to go and rummage for a spare hat! I was pleased with the effect though.

      Scarlet, I got so caught up in looking through a file of knitting and crochet patterns which I inherited from my mother (and had never looked at) that I haven't done any yet.

    I love looking at the photo of Arnold. I could just reach out and put my arms around his neck. When I lived in Kansas, I experienced snow like this. So much of the time, here in Texas, we get freezing rain. It is very dangerous to drive with a sheet of ice on the road.

      Meggie, Arnold is more than happy to receive hugs and attention. He is much happier now that he has the sheep with him - and he really loves it when we take Harry to visit. He has spent a lot of time working with children and is very gentle. The snow and slush froze last night so it's very slippery out there today.

    Who can resist making a snowman?
    Last Winter we rushed out to make some in case it disappeared, but then the snow lasted forever. Like you I hope it doesn't hang around too long this time.

      LBM, Last winter was terrible, as you say, it went on forever. We have just had to re-attach the snowman's nose but as he's still got a big grin on his face I guess it is cold out there.

    Rufus' hair is quite distinctive! I love the snow scenes. Makes me miss the snow from my time in Kansas and Iowa (but not the January ice storms).

    The snow scene is so beautiful. I have to travel thousands of mile to see one. Oh I wanna hug Arnold too! The last time my Quay Lo took me to Prague and I managed to see some snow:D I was like pig in mud!
