The sky didn't look promising, the clouds looked as though they could drop some rain at any time, but I decided to just go for it. Normally I just put a lead on Toby and we walk wherever our feet take us, today I wanted to do something different. I put Toby's car harness on him and drove a couple of miles along the lanes, in order to try out a new walk.
For the first ten or fifteen minutes of the walk I skirted around a very large field, enjoying the wider skies and sight of the dancing trees on the horizon. I enjoyed seeing the remarkable variety of grasses and sedges - and became aware of just how ignorant I am of any of their names. Hedges were studded with wild roses in pink and white.

I had to climb a stile, Toby found his own way through. and we met on the other side, where this pretty scene greeted us.
There was even a beautiful white duck with one lone duckling.
Beautiful yellow irises are in flower along the banks. It was tranquil, refreshing.
Hello Elaine:
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfectly lovely spot to have found for your walk. Toby sounds as if he entered into the new adventure with gusto!
The streamside is so very attractive dotted with yellow Iris and the water looks beautifully clear and peaceful. A charming spot, to which, no doubt, you will return!
Hello Jane and Lance, Toby thoroughly enjoyed himself as he sniffed out new territory. It was a most unexpectedly beautiful walk and I shall certainly return to it. I look forward to seeing it as the seasons of the year progress, no doubt there will be more photographs!
DeleteOh. Elaine....how beautiful and tranquil! I see Pseudacorus (yellow flag) growing in the last photo. I have that same plant growing in my flower garden at the farm.
ReplyDeleteHello Meggie, I wish you could have been there, it is a beautiful stream and the yellow flags were growing along the banks. The whole thing was a visual delight, all the more wonderful for being so unexpected.
DeleteI'm penned up at my kitchen island, drawing more designs and wishing I was out walking...your post is the next best thing. XOXO
ReplyDeleteHello Susan, Next time I shall pack a picnic hamper and get you and Meggie to come and walk there with me, then you can return to your beautiful designs - refreshed, relaxed and inspired.xx
DeleteWhat a lovely walk. Do you suppose the pool was made for fishing or swimming, long time ago?
ReplyDeleteHello Joanne, It is a beautiful place and so well hidden! I imagine it would be possible for children to spend hours fishing for tiddlers, but I doubt they would get a great deal. I think it is a spot which has been created with love.
DeleteA bubbling brook lined with willows and yellow iris--and ducks on top of it! Your wandering was a smashing success!
ReplyDeleteHello Ms Sparrow, It has taught me that I do need to explore more. All that beauty, so close to where we live and I didn't know it existed. I wonder how many more lovely places I can find...with the aid of my trusty Toby, of course.
DeleteWhat a beautiful walk...I think you and Toby may find yourself there quite often...:-)
ReplyDeleteHello KittyKittyWeaselFish, You are absolutely right, I have plans to return - gardening duties will prevent me from doing that today, maybe tomorrow.
DeleteI think you stumbled upon heaven!
ReplyDeleteJane x
Hello Jane, That first sight of it was quite bewildering - one minute I was walking around a field full of rye in rolling countryside, and then that wonderful stream came into sight. A heavenly haven.
DeleteAll three photos are grand, but the third one is amazing. What a wonderful place to contemplate nature
ReplyDeleteHello Janet, It is a place of great beauty and tranquility. On a hot summer's day it will call to me, I could certainly sit and contemplate there.
DeleteOh to live beside a river like that! Stunning.
ReplyDeleteHello Cro, This little stream is set amidst rolling agricultural land. Someone has spent much time and money creating that little bit of paradise. I am very grateful to them, I shall enjoy it at every opportunity.
DeleteThe third photograph made me catch my breath. It reminded me so much of the old mill stream that I used to play in as a child- paddling, trying to catch sticklebacks and picnicking on jam sandwiches and lime cordial.
ReplyDeleteHello Scarlet, How wonderful that you have such beautiful childhood memories. That is the way a childhood should be spent!
DeleteWhat a lovely peaceful walk. By the way I really love your banner photo - what a beautiful garden you have :) Maggie xx
ReplyDeleteHello Maggie, Thank you. It was completely unexpected, I expected fields, stiles, hedgerows and more of the same. I got so much more, I'm just delighted that I had remembered the camera.
DeleteI love finding new, lovely places. What a wonderful walk. I am so glad you shared it with us!
ReplyDeleteHello In My Wild Eden, It was a delightful surprise - of course now I am wondering what other wonderful walks I have been missing out on!
DeleteYour descriptions and photos are breathtaking. It all makes me want to be there.
ReplyDeleteHello Mitch, I think you would find it worth the walk, it is far more beautiful than my photos show.
DeleteBeautiful photos and I just love the last one.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Elna

DeleteA bit of heaven you found there. It would make a lovely painting.
ReplyDeleteHello Doc, You are absolutely right, it would - it's a bit beyond my skills though!

ReplyDeleteHello SAS, Heaven on Earth - yes, we have the proof, it does exist. You can imagine my delight when I came across it!
DeleteThe iris photo is dreamy and I have always wanted to climb a stile
ReplyDeleteHello Linda, Oh, if only you could put on your walking boots and come with me, I could show you so many stiles, you would be a happy, but exhausted, woman!
