PEAR TREE LOG

pear tree log: I started this blog to keep my younger son, Jonny, in touch with life in Lincolnshire, while he spent a year working in China. That year turned into five! Now he is home and training to become a physics teacher. This is simply a patchwork quilt of some of the things I enjoy - life in rural Lincolnshire, our animals, friends, architecture, books, the gardens, and things of passing interest.

A Walk into the Unknown

The sky didn't look promising, the clouds looked as though they could drop some rain at any time, but I decided to just go for it.   Normally I just put a lead on Toby and we walk wherever our feet take us, today I wanted to do something different.   I put Toby's car harness on him and drove a couple of miles along the lanes, in order to try out a new walk.

For the first ten or fifteen minutes of the walk I skirted around a very large field, enjoying the wider skies and sight of the dancing trees on the horizon.   I enjoyed seeing the remarkable variety of grasses and sedges - and became aware of just how ignorant I am of any of their names.    Hedges were studded with wild roses in pink and white.

A few more minutes brought us to this stream.

I had to climb a stile, Toby found his own way through.  and we met on the other side, where this pretty scene greeted us.

There was even a beautiful white duck with one lone duckling.

Beautiful yellow irises are in flower along the banks.  It was tranquil, refreshing.

  1. Hello Elaine:
What a perfectly lovely spot to have found for your walk. Toby sounds as if he entered into the new adventure with gusto!

The streamside is so very attractive dotted with yellow Iris and the water looks beautifully clear and peaceful. A charming spot, to which, no doubt, you will return!

    1. Hello Joanne, It is a beautiful place and so well hidden! I imagine it would be possible for children to spend hours fishing for tiddlers, but I doubt they would get a great deal. I think it is a spot which has been created with love.

    1. Hello Ms Sparrow, It has taught me that I do need to explore more. All that beauty, so close to where we live and I didn't know it existed. I wonder how many more lovely places I can find...with the aid of my trusty Toby, of course.

    1. Hello Jane, That first sight of it was quite bewildering - one minute I was walking around a field full of rye in rolling countryside, and then that wonderful stream came into sight. A heavenly haven.

    1. Hello Cro, This little stream is set amidst rolling agricultural land. Someone has spent much time and money creating that little bit of paradise. I am very grateful to them, I shall enjoy it at every opportunity.

  10. The third photograph made me catch my breath. It reminded me so much of the old mill stream that I used to play in as a child- paddling, trying to catch sticklebacks and picnicking on jam sandwiches and lime cordial.
