PEAR TREE LOG
pear tree log: I started this blog to keep my younger son, Jonny, in touch with life in Lincolnshire, while he spent a year working in China. That year turned into five! Now he is home and training to become a physics teacher. This is simply a patchwork quilt of some of the things I enjoy - life in rural Lincolnshire, our animals, friends, architecture, books, the gardens, and things of passing interest.

I love this shot. I have one that a friend took of our pond, when we lived in Connecticut, that she entitled--"Adult Swim." We had up to a 100+ geese and ducks and I looked forward every Spring to see the goslings come out. They really are one of my favorite birds. Thanks for sharing, it brought back some beautiful memories of a happy time. XOXO
ReplyDeleteHello Susan, They are sweet - I had Toby-dog with me, so they were anxious to take their babies away to safety, which is why it is such a snatched shot. We left them to their morning dabbling and paddling. What a wonderful sight you must have seen each Spring - so many little thistle-down babies and proud parents. xx
DeleteThanks for the photo. All the geese disappeared from the pond near my place. We had lots of heavy rains in May and I wonder if it drowned out all the nests so they left. I miss seeing the little families along the roadside.
ReplyDeleteHello Ms Sparrow, Oh what a shame, but it does happen - too often.
DeleteA couple of years ago (before we got the cats) a female pheasant used to come into the garden with her 12 little tufts of thistle-down..it seemed almost daily that the numbers would decrease. In the end I stopped counting.
Oh how sweet to see all the little ones.
ReplyDeleteHello Linda, They are adorable - and they were all so neatly keeping to a straight line...except for the tiniest one, who kept close to his mama.
DeleteAw bless. I love watching the little ducks swimming in formation behind their Mama. Lovely photo Elaine.
ReplyDeleteHello Molly, It made me ridiculously happy when I saw them, they were so cute. I almost didn't post the photograph, but now I'm glad I did.
DeleteLovely photo, I love this time of year x
ReplyDeleteHello Cheryl, It is a truly wonderful time of year, so much life and energy...now we just need the right weather to go with it!
DeleteWonderful photo. So glad you got up so early to take it and share it with us.
ReplyDeleteHello Janet, Early mornings, especially if the sun is shining, just lure me outside. There is usually something worth seeing, a reward for making the effort.
DeleteFish pond? More like Duck pond!
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago it was a temporary home to swans, geese and ducks, it was teeming with life and activity. It is a staging post for them on their way north - it gets very noisy because the geese can't arrive, or depart, quietly. I suppose these decided it was as good as anywhere else and stayed put.
DeleteHello Elaine:
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight. But we are informed that ducks are poor mothers and so we trust for the well being of the ducklings.
Hello Jane and Lance, I suppose it is difficult, I know that in this area there are sparrow-hawks and other predators around, we shall just have to hope for the best. It is not nice, but it is nature.
