PEAR TREE LOG

pear tree log: I started this blog to keep my younger son, Jonny, in touch with life in Lincolnshire, while he spent a year working in China. That year turned into five! Now he is home and training to become a physics teacher. This is simply a patchwork quilt of some of the things I enjoy - life in rural Lincolnshire, our animals, friends, architecture, books, the gardens, and things of passing interest.

Bennie, at One with Nature

One lone cat decided to supervise things today.

I was trying to focus on one ladybird.
Our one and only cherry fruit tree is getting ready to burst into action!

One lone daisy.
One benevolent tree eye, watching, observing.
One amazing and impressive sunrise - approximately 6.45am this morning.  I don't know what was going on in the skies but I, for one, was impressed!

    1. Hi Meggie, The header photograph is of my favourite tiny strip of garden near the back door. The ground is wibbly-wobbly, so is the fencing, the wild pheasants peck away the grass under the apple tree and yet there is a really comfortable feel about that little space. So yes, come on over and let us have a splendid tea party!

    1. Hi Green Dragonette, The weather here has been exceptional and we've really been able to get on with the gardening jobs - but now there is talk of wintry showers or snow at the weekend. Eeek! Back to thick socks and warm fleeces by the sound of it.

    1. Hi Scarlet, It has been a wonderful day - most of it has been spent outdoors, digging, although I did fit in a visit to my favourite old horse. The header shows my favourite little bit of the garden.

    1. Hello Mitch, I always used to be a morning person, I suppose I still am, it's just that mornings begin a little later these days!

  7. You are a great photographer! I envy how you can just take a walk and come back with all those wonderful photos. Try as I might, I can't take a decent picture. I love the header photo as well!

    1. Hello Ms Sparrow, You are too kind, I'm afraid it is down to Jonny's nice camera. I'm also lucky in that I have the woods, the fields and gardens to roam around and my little furry/feathered friends love coming along with me. It is simple exploitation really!

    1. Hello Knatolee, We may be in for some cold weather this weekend, which will be a shock to the system after all these warm days. That awful 'S' word has been mentioned - luckily only in conjunction with possible and showers!

    1. Hello Janet, I think we are going to have to hold a tea party under that old apple tree. The more the merrier, we could have such great fun swapping stories! I was amazed by that sunrise, no photographic trickery was involved, the photo is one of a series I took just to make sure that one came out!

    1. Hello cuby poet, Come along and join the tea party! It was difficult to pick out just one ladybird yesterday as the vegetable garden had plenty of them - I wonder whether this is going to be a bumper year.

    1. Hello Shaheen, Once I had spotted my first ladybird they seemed to be all over the place (I'm quite sure it wasn't just the same one following me around!!) so I suppose they must have been responding to the extremely mild weather! My son Jonny (the one I started doing this blog for) lent me his old camera when he went over to China, so I am having fun playing about with that - any successful results are down to the camera!

  12. A lovely set of photos Elaine. Especially the kitty.

Reminds me of my Molly, he looks so similar (sadly for me, she's no longer with us).

Saying that, we often see her out of the corner of the eye, just passing the open doorways or even hear her about the house. Oooooooo!

    1. Hi Chris, I lived in a house which had cats which would spring through doorways, just as they were opened, or we would see them in the corner of our eye, etc. The only trouble was that at the time our only cat would either be asleep, outdoors, etc. I spoke to someone who had lived there before us and it seems they had had 7 cats during their many years there...
