In my book 300 years is more than enough for a place to have a lot of history!Elainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18218332259187330304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-5390972305041242232012-02-10T06:59:48.815+00:002012-02-10T06:59:48.815+00:00Ms Sparrow, It is a couple of years since we last ...Ms Sparrow, It is a couple of years since we last saw the wattle and daub man; once the weather warms up a little we will take a walk over there and I'll try to get you some photographs and information on the process.Elainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18218332259187330304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-17927333957577219262012-02-10T06:56:05.864+00:002012-02-10T06:56:05.864+00:00PS Apple, with the pips removed, so I am told.PS Apple, with the pips removed, so I am told.Elainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18218332259187330304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-48795098222712040322012-02-10T06:55:26.642+00:002012-02-10T06:55:26.642+00:00Joanne, Apologies for short-changing you with tha...Joanne, Apologies for short-changing you with that post. We didn't have time to photograph the church, but I will do so before long. Haugh is a really tiny hamlet, with a manor house right next to the church - in effect the little church is a mausoleum for the manor. It's tiny, but interesting, so I will try to do it justice one of these days.Elainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18218332259187330304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-37564967345411094972012-02-10T01:12:40.139+00:002012-02-10T01:12:40.139+00:00I'm with Meggie. It was an awesome experience to attend the Sunday mariachi service at the Mission San Jose. It's only 300 years old, but I "felt" the history of the place.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-38575706158637616112012-02-09T22:02:56.813+00:002012-02-09T22:02:56.813+00:00I'm surprised that chalk was used for building...I'm surprised that chalk was used for building. It doesn't seem like it would be very sturdy. I picked up a piece of chalk in the parking lot by Stonehenge and it rubs off on my fingers. If you get a chance to observe the wattle and daub process, I would love to see some photos. In the meantime, I really appreciate the shots of your neighborhood and its denizens.Ms Sparrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03417670251423549014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-88355525448231189172012-02-09T21:13:28.149+00:002012-02-09T21:13:28.149+00:00Your photos and history tid bits are fascinating. ...Your photos and history tid bits are fascinating. I think you would really love the city of Lincoln, with its very strong Roman history and beautiful cathedral.

Once we have our days back to ourselves I will be delighted to go and photograph some of the older churches around here. I love them and I would really enjoy sharing them with you. I love going into an old building and just being still, feeling the atmosphere.Elainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18218332259187330304noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-40485938605618463092012-02-09T18:49:14.154+00:002012-02-09T18:49:14.154+00:00Oh, Elaine, looking at your photos makes me wish I...Oh, Elaine, looking at your photos makes me wish I could be there, walking in my snow boots. In Texas, we talk about 200 year old buildings.....you talk about centuries. When you click on the church photo, you can see all the details. It gives me goosebumps to think of all the stories of the church since the 11th and 12th century...Meggiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16512116319930586068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-37566491742154003432012-02-09T18:39:17.995+00:002012-02-09T18:39:17.995+00:00I'd love to see a wattle and daub building bei...I'd love to see a wattle and daub building being constructed.
Arnold is as handsome as ever!
Jane xJane and Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08102086552682194819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4525594470029141306.post-84235702651299407612012-02-09T18:37:21.568+00:002012-02-09T18:37:21.568+00:00We still haven't seen a flake of snow- it seem...We still haven't seen a flake of snow- it seems really strange to look at other areas of the country that are covered in it. Road and pavement conditions have been bad in Lancashire today with black ice though.
