Welcome to Steep Hill in Lincoln. It has been named as winner of The Great Street Award.
It was chosen for its historical assets (Roman built) and valuable place in the city's future. It fought off competition from all over the country, streets in Edinburgh and Glasgow were close contenders in the final round.
Not if you're lugging a heavy monrail camera up that hill it isn't. Especially if you get lost on the way back and end up a mile away from the carpark.
People are really nice though, even to a sweating, swearing, bewildered idiot.
Hello Nilhuanwen, Remember to wear comfortable shoes, the gradient is one in seven - really steep. Oh, and best not do it on an icy day (descent is very speedy then!). I'm sure you'll love it.
Needs an escalator, at the very least some sort of ski-lift. Maybe tilt the rest of Lincoln so that Steep Hill is horizontal.
ReplyDeleteThat's what they're spending the prize money on! No, seriously, oxygen may be needed at the top - but it is a lovely street. Hooray for Lincoln!

PS
ReplyDeleteHas my legal team been in touch about that limerick? ;-)
Chris: Why didn't you park in the lower car park? ;)
ReplyDeleteOoops, forget I said that. Legal team said I shouldn't speak to you until that little matter had been sorted.
The judges obviously didn't visit Brighton. Maybe they didn't have a pin in order to make their choice!
ReplyDeleteIt is a ridiculous competition, but I am always happy to promote Lincoln(shire).
ReplyDeleteI visited Brighton once.
ReplyDeleteTOW: - and they let you leave?
ReplyDeleteI visited Brighton too, but that must have been at least 40 years ago!
I read this story too - it's made me even more determined to visit Steep Hill before too long!
